Get On the Richt Bus

I have great admiration for Mike McGarity and the job he has done and will continue to do at the University of Georgia.

But, is it just me, or has he become something of a "chatter-box" all of a sudden?

Seth Emerson just posted an interesting piece in which he states "Greg McGarity's phone started lighting up Thursday night..." http://www.macon.com/2011/12/09/1818108/mcgarity-says-richt-wants-to-coach.html.

Interesting, though, he doesn't say from whom.

I have no idea and no inside information, but if I were to speculate (AND let's face it that's all the media, especially the newspapers and, of course, the blogs DO today IMO): I would guess (1) the vast majority of those calls were from the same people who were calling upon McGarity and Michael Adams to fire Richt after the 0-2 start of the season, and (2) at least one of those calls was from Dr. Adams.  Again, I have no idea; but FOIA someone from the paid media, please?

Dr. Adams was the person who intially passed over McGarity for the job and gave it to Damon Evans.  We know how that turned out, (1) the athletics program became extremely profitable and fiscally sound, (2) Vince Dooley was forced out (and then Jim Donnan), (3) Jim Harrick was hired....., (4) red panties....., and (5) the only man left standing was Mark Richt.

IMO, as much as the U.G.A. sports blogoshere hates Dr. Adams, possibly well-deserved, he may have finally learned his lesson. In the long term, I think he will get some credit (deserved or not) for possibly the 2 greatest hires in modern Georgia athletics history: (1) Mark Richt, and (2) Mike McGarity, in that order.  Even if he doesn't, he should get credit for continuing the work of his immediate predecessor in further establishing and expanding the academic reputation of U.G.A.

IMO, Mike McGarity doesn't become a "chatter-box" with the media overnight because he had to turn off his phone.

Just saying.
